Hook:
Achieving economical and reliable brazed joints on copper assemblies requires a filler metal that offers good flow characteristics, especially in tight-fitting joints common in electrical and manufacturing applications.
Product Overview:
BCuP-2 (Alloy 201) Material 201 Phosphor Copper Brazing Alloy (Phosphor Copper Brazing Filler Metal), also designated as BCu93P-A, is a binary copper-phosphorus alloy formulated near its eutectic composition. This positioning contributes to a lower melting range (approximately 710-793°C) and provides improved fluidity during the brazing process, which can aid in filling narrow joint clearances. Its cost-effectiveness makes it a commonly considered option for a variety of copper joining tasks.

Applications & Guidance:
This filler metal finds application in brazing copper and copper alloys, particularly within the electrical motor, instrumentation, and refrigeration industries.
Flux Requirement: When brazing pure copper, the use of a separate brazing flux is typically not required due to the self-fluxing action of phosphorus. For brazing copper alloys, the use of a suitable silver brazing flux is recommended.
Joint Design Consideration: It is important to note that brazed joints made with this alloy can exhibit reduced ductility. Therefore, their use is generally not advised for connections that will be subjected to significant impact or vibratory loading in service.
